



Pola de Laviana, the capital of the council, is in the Nalon Valley. It’s the most populated town in this part (about 15000 inhabitants). It’s a coalfield with a few coaltanks still working : Sotón, Maria Luisa and Carrio (in Laviana). The mining museum reflect the hard, difficult and dangerous work in a mine. This valley was, some years ago, the heart of mining and iron and steel industries. Nowadays, this part of the valley is choosen by a lot of people to live in because of its natural surroundings.
The kind and hospitable character of its inhabitants makes Pola de Laviana an attractive and positive town for tourists who love the nature, the history and of course the gastronomy.
The local dish of this council is the "Cabritu con patatinos" (potato small) and the dessert mas famous the "bartolos" (pastry of puff-pastry and almond). Certainly a good
fabada, pote, picadillo, callos, tortos , casadielles.
